Eye Health
Every September National Eye Health Week reminds us to pause and think about the importance of good eye care.
At The Eye Place, we believe looking after your eyes should be simple and stress free. This week isn't about scare tactics and medical jargon, it's about empowering you with the knowledge and confidence to keep your vision in great health for years to come.
What is National Eye Health Week?
National Eye Health Week is an annual public health campaign by Eye Health UK that is designed to raise awareness of the importance of good eyecare. During the week, the campaign aims to educate people about how to look after their eyes and inspire them to take action to protect their vision.
Why eye health matters
Eyesight is something a lot of us take for granted. Whether it's reading a book or watching the sunset, our eyes help us experience the world in vivid colour and detail. Vision is central to daily life. It is essential for learning and development, supporting mental health, maintaining independence as we age, and revealing other health issues. But like any other part of our body, our eyes can change over time, so taking care of your eyes and regular eye exams are extremely important.
Looking after your eyes
Keeping your eyes healthy takes a combination of things- regular eye exams along with everyday healthy habits are essential in protecting your eye health.
Simple lifestyle choices, like eating a balanced diet, protecting your eyes from UV rays, taking regular screen breaks, and exercising regularly, can all support your eye health between appointments. When combined with routine exams, these habits give your eyes the best chance to stay healthy and your vision clear for years to come.
The power of regular eye exams
An eye exam is about so much more than just getting glasses. There are many other important reasons to have a regular sight exam, such as:
• Early detection of conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, or macular degeneration.
• Spot general health issues, such as diabetes or high blood pressure.
• Help reduce headaches, eye-strain, and other symptoms of visual fatigue.
• Keep your prescription up to date so you can see clearly and comfortably.
Let's look after your vision together
